GOLDEN PERUVIAN SUPER MACA ROOT

This wonder root is grown at extreme heights of 14,000 feet in Peru, in the central Andes. It is a tuberous root vegetable, which is similar to a radish or turnip and it has been cultivated for the thousands of years. It has been incorporated into the wholefoods diet of the region's people for many years. Farming goes back as far as 4000BC and during Inca Empire times. According to legend, it is believed Inca warriors consumed maca root to give them strength and endurance prior to battle and as a natural aphrodisiac, whilst women consumed maca to promote fertility.

Cold weather and high altitude is the best climate for growing the root for full development of it’s hypocotyl. The hypocotyl is the part of the plant embryo or seedling which provides the push for plant growth and eventually becomes the stem of the plant. It is a vital nutritional part of these superfoods. Other types of roots not grown in the Andean region may not have the same fully developed hypocotyl and therefore not the same nutritional properties. The colour of our maca root powder is golden yellow. We believe this colour variant provides the best whole foods nutritional balance.
